How to get into Wedding/Event Planning?

I’m only 17, but I’m absolutely sure of what I want to do once I get my career started.
My question is, how do you get into this business from high school?
For example, what would your major be in college?
How do you go about this?

I’m actually going to school to be an event planner right now. I go to Champlain College (in Burlington, VT) and my major is business with a focus in event planning and hospitality. I definitely suggest going to college because you will be paid more if you do. Also, start an internship with either an event planner, or caterer or florist for extra experience. It’s important to see each aspect and perspective of an event. Becoming a business major is a good idea because then you aren’t limited only to event planning. Good luck!
